SIDS Awareness Month - Product Review and Giveaway

October is SIDS awareness month. Some of the recommendations for safe sleep include being sure that puffy pillows and blankets stay away from your baby, and dressing your child for sleep so that he or she doesn't get too warm and overheated. Sleep sacks are popular for insuring that blankets don't end up covering your baby's face, yet your child stays cozy all night long. aden + anais makes a soft breathable cotton muslin sleeping bag that is perfect for this.

aden + anais was started by two Australian moms who moved to the US and started making their own muslin cotton swaddling blankets for their babies because they couldn't find them here. Nurses, pediatricians, lactation consultants, and moms all wanted their own swaddling blankets so aden + anais the company was born. They make swaddling blankets, sleeping bags, hooded towels, and more.

I was sent a small sleeping bag in the elephant print - sooo cute! The small size looks great for a little baby, like it will fit well, but with room to grow. I was impressed with how soft it is, and after washing and drying, it is even softer. I'm excited to have this to use with our new baby especially since I'm due in January and it will definitely be cold here. The material is lightweight so it will be useful through the summer as well. Another nice detail about the sleeping bag is that the zipper is kind of on upside down so that when closed, it is at the baby's feet rather than being in the way by their neck.

aden + anais is a proud sponsor of the CJ Foundation and their Sleep In Safety, Grow In Style campaign. This campaign aims to educate and raise public awareness about what constitutes a safe sleep environment for infants. For more information about the CJ Foundation, see their website here. The CJ Foundation offers "Ten Steps To Take Before Baby Takes His or Her First":

1- Always lay your baby to sleep face up.
2- Don't smoke when pregnant and never smoke near your infant.
3- Don't let your baby get too hot. (A wearable sleep blanket is great for this.)
4- Lay your baby to sleep in an approved crib, on a firm mattress.
5- Create a healthy lifestyle for you and your baby.
6- If possible, breastfeed your baby. (Reduces the risk of SIDS!)
7- Offer your baby a pacifier at all sleep times.
8- Put your baby on his or her tummy to play when your baby is awake and supervised.
9- Don't share sleep surfaces.
10- Share these tips with everyone who cares for your baby.

(Note: I personally cosleep with my babies and believe this can be done safely. Please use your best judgement when deciding where your baby should sleep.)

  5. I love sleep sacks! I was just going to get a new one for Caleb, but I guess I'll give this a try first :) If they get the blue stars print in stock that would be my first choice. Otherwise the fish would be fine too. Thanks! karissadupuis@gmail.com
