We've tried a couple different ones and I've read lots of reviews, looking for just the right thing.
First we had an older Graco DuoGlider that I found at a garage sale for $25 when I was expecting Julia. It served its purpose and saw plenty of use, but I grew to hate it. It was kind of a beast to push - it felt long and hard to Christyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00780735318656555763noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5834477214024355293.post-25927819514924370232014-06-30T17:02:00.002-04:002014-06-30T17:02:22.162-04:00Snacks On the GoMy kids are always hungry! Because we are gluten and dairy free, I need to be prepared and bring snacks wherever we go. It is nearly impossible to just stop and grab something for them to eat.
I can usually find some packaged snacks at Costco that work for us. (applesauce pouches, Annie's fruit snacks, freeze dried fruit, nuts, craisins, Lara bars, veggie straws) I Christyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00780735318656555763noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5834477214024355293.post-50785924621428481842014-06-23T14:40:00.001-04:002014-06-23T14:40:17.916-04:00Construction Birthday PartyIsaac turned two in March! I think I've had this cake in my Pinterest ever since he was born, just waiting for the right time. :) It was so easy to do and turned out wonderfully.
The cake was gluten and dairy free - I used this mix: Pamela's Products Luscious Chocolate Cake Mix and the frosting recipe from The Healthy Gluten-Free Life: 200 Delicious Gluten-Free, Christyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00780735318656555763noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5834477214024355293.post-39637652684407992262014-03-20T10:32:00.004-04:002014-03-20T10:32:58.079-04:00Birth StoriesSo you've read Story Number One where I became a mama,

In researching what to buy for Poca to chew, I came across this article, and purchased a few Wholesome Hide rawhides. She chewed through the chips too quickly, but one of the larger rolls lasted her quite some time. On further searching, I saw "bully sticks" recommended. Oh. my. goodness. &Christyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00780735318656555763noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5834477214024355293.post-11159379207597125902014-03-13T17:19:00.000-04:002014-03-13T17:20:17.307-04:00Safe Paw Ice Melt
Although winter is nearing an end, we are still getting snow here in Michigan! It has been a winter full of snow, ice, and more snow and ice. With Poca needing to go outside multiple times a day, I went searching for a safe ice melt for our back steps.

I ended up changing the amounts quite a bit, but am ever grateful for the general idea. This tastes like lasagna!
1 lb ground turkey, cooked with onion flakes and garlic salt

10 oz gluten free lasagna noodles

This is the trick: sew the diamonds on and then sew them closed. Super easy!

Years ago, while visiting friends in Germany over New Year's, we had fondue. That tends to be the time of year now that I think about having it. I love fondue but thought it might be difficult with all the little ones. It turns out it was a blast and they did great!

I have young children, so the food has to appeal to them, not be too strange or exotic, and be gluten and dairy free. Pinterest is often helpful, but finding a whole cookbook full of recipes that work for us is pure gold!
The Pure Kitchen by Hallie Klecker is a great resource. On Tuesday, my mother-in-law was here and let me make a quick run to the fabric store. I got sidetracked by all the fun heart prints right by the door and decided that if my kids are going to be sick, new Valentine's Day pillowcases might cheer them up. :) I stayed up late last night finishing these and left them Christyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00780735318656555763noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5834477214024355293.post-79320709034618333972014-01-20T22:00:00.001-05:002014-01-21T08:28:37.413-05:00Barefoot Books Ambassador Program
I threw out a quick post about Barefoot Books the other day because I wanted to be sure you knew about their big sale. However, I have lots more to tell you about! What exactly am I doing? How does it all work? Lets do this Q and A style:
How did you hear about Barefoot Books?
Isaac got a Barefoot Book in one of his Citrus Lane boxes. I've been wanting one of these for several years now! As a child, we had a paper "Happy Birthday" banner that hung in our kitchen whenever someone had a birthday. I loved it so much that I wanted a special homemade fabric one to use with my own family. I'm not sure why I waited so long. It was so easy to do that I whipped up another and took photos along the way for youChristyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00780735318656555763noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5834477214024355293.post-56535972101086638952014-01-17T12:14:00.000-05:002014-01-17T12:14:01.352-05:00Gluten Free LabelsA while back, I came across Gluten Free Labels:
We received some stickers and silicone tags to review. I also purchased the toothpick flags. While the website markets these for labeling gluten free items in your kitchen, we don't have that need. My husband eats gluten while he is out and about, but otherwise we are all gluten free. I'm super excited to share with you that I am now a Barefoot Books Ambassador.
Barefoot Books are filled with gorgeous artwork and wonderful stories. We've recently fallen in love with them and are excited to share them with you. Once I discovered how easy it is, I've kind of become addicted to making pillowcases. The girls each got one of these in their stockings and Isaac got a cute robot print pillowcase, also homemade. Looking back at these pictures, she was so tiny then! Oh my! I'll have to post some updated photos, but these first...
In my typical fashion, I was picky about what we would bathe Poca with. Our previous dog, Leia, had skin issues - she was itchy and allergic to something that we just couldn't get under control. &Christyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00780735318656555763noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5834477214024355293.post-74891065106916073612013-12-04T21:47:00.003-05:002013-12-04T21:49:46.824-05:00Puppy Poop!I'm sure you've all been wondering what we're using to pick up after Poca. I was amazed when I met my in-laws dog for the first time and realized that she was trained to ring a bell when she needed to go outside! We trained our other Lab this way and are now teaching Poca the same. Its absolutely genius! The dogs learn this so quickly and it prevents them from whining or scratching or barking because they are easily able to communicate what they Christyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00780735318656555763noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5834477214024355293.post-85716117041681373092013-11-07T15:14:00.001-05:002013-11-07T19:30:59.794-05:00Fall Felt Wreath
This fall wreath was inexpensive and easy to put together while the kids were napping today. Actually it was so easy I made one for Grandma's house as well. :)
I used these tutorials: big lumpy flower, two colored flower, and this, and the rolled up flowers. I love them! In fact, I'm kind of a "real foodie" ...a term that means: borderline obsessive about what my family puts in their mouths. Given a new puppy to feed, of course I did some research. Training a dog is so important, and so easy and fun at this young age. Poca already knows how to sit, stand, lay down (sometimes), ring a bell to go outside, and she's working on coming when called. I'm excited to teach her more as she grows.
