Kitchen Tour: Safe Bakeware and Cookware

Welcome to my kitchen!  Today I thought I would take you on a little tour and show you some of the safer choices we've made as far as our bakeware and cookware.  It has been a slow process of replacing things as we could afford to and as we found good alternatives.  Take a peek:

What about you?  Are there things in your kitchen that you have replaced?

  1. We have replaced all plastic tupperware with glass pyrex. Non-stick cookware with cast iron and stainless steel pots and bakeware is now stoneware. I love me some stoneware!

  2. We did a switch out over the last few years. I do a lot of cooking w/ cast iron and SS pots/pans. All of my bakeware is stoneware or glass.

All of our dry good storage is still in BPA / "safe" plastic. But I am not that worried since the containers aren't getting warmed up.

  3. We also switched over to stainless steel and cast iron pans. We were blessed to inherit a huge stainless steel set. I also got rid of almost all of the plastic and switched to glass or stainless steel. Of course, that was before we moved in with my parents, so I'm starting all over again.

  6. @ Flo - I have pantry things in Lock N Lock "safe" plastic containers because we had cupboard moths once.

@ Spice - I only recently started using the stainless steel baking sheets, but I've been impressed with them. My cookies didn't stick at all. :)

  8. You can get cast iron waffle irons. I'm sure Amazon would have them. Most are designed for campfires, but there's a few you could use on the stove.

  9. LOVED your tour, Christy! So fun! :)

The stainless steel baking sheets -- are they really heavy, or lighter? I got one on Amazon.com but it was lighter than I expected. Still functional and everything though. It looks like yours! What brand is yours? I agree -- cookies just don't stick to it! Well, maybe super-healthy no-fat cookies would! ;)

Your kitchen is beautiful! I love the Berkey, fish bowl, and ivy... so pretty! :)

How often do you use your reusable straws? Are they a bother to wash? :)

  10. Tammy, thanks for stopping by. :)

The stainless steel sheets are a little thinner than I would like. They do work well though. I got them from Paula's Bread, but I think they are the same ones Amazon sells. (Norpro)

Thanks for the compliments, the ivy is just a sweet potato school experiment that got out of control. lol

The reusable straws are quite fun, I reviewed them a while back here on the blog. We do have to wash them out after use pretty quickly just so junk doesn't stick inside, but I love that we aren't throwing away all the plastic. :)
